It isn't uncommon to catch us in the front row of Anderson, SC area Little League games. Though we're typically fresh out of work at Piedmont Honda, we make time to come and cheer on our favorite pint-sized players. Like many of you, we go to support our own kids, but it also serves as a great opportunity to further bond with our community-- something that is incredibly important during times of struggle.
Such a time was last fall, when Hurricane Sandy destroyed much of the eastern United States, with much of New York and New Jersey taking the brunt of the storm's strength. Many aspects of life in the area were ruined, including the Staten Island Little League's facilities. That's where Honda stepped in, bearing funds to help prepare the league for another season.
As the official vehicle sponsor, Honda donated $50,000 to Staten Island Little League to go towards freshening up damaged fields, building bleachers, and repairing dugouts, just in time for the league's opening day last weekend on April 20th. The automaker continues to lend a helping hand with more fundraising events so the league can replace their scoreboards, field lighting, and additional needs.
Michael Colini, president of the Staten Island Little League, said, "Everyone sees on the news how Staten Island was affected structurally, but no one thinks of the families and kids that the storm affected. I cannot think of a better way to express our gratitude than by making sure our kids can get out on the diamond and play ball!"1
While our new Honda lineup boasts many great features, we feel content just to offer vehicles made by an auto brand that values children and families as a whole. Whether its rooting for a local team, or a donation like Honda's, every little bit counts towards building a solid community.
