There's nothing like the rev of an engine to get you to hop behind the wheel of a new Honda and take it for a spin around Anderson, SC. In fact, sometimes you don't even need to see the vehicle in question to get the urge. Well, that's precisely what Honda is banking on in releasing an audio preview of its new Formula One engine.
F1 regulations are currently pushing automakers to ramp up environmentally conscious engineering. When the announcement was first made, many racing enthusiasts were a little surprised to hear that displacement would be on the downswing. However, here at Piedmont Honda, we recognize that that simply means technology will have to do more of the legwork. Therefore, efficiency will be given a boost to keep performance at the forefront.
Falling right in line with that logic, Honda's latest racing mill isn't a V10 or even a V8; it's a 1.6-liter direct injection turbocharged V6. The vehicle itself will also be equipped with an energy recovery system to make use of all possible power sources.
While we clearly hold a preference for our brand, we should also tell you that it isn't a solo mission for Honda. The racer is a joint venture between the Japanese automaker and McLaren, a British F1 team. McLaren is handling the business aspects of racing while Honda is focused solely on the power plant. Judging by what we've heard, they've held up their end of the bargain perfectly.
