Sleek styling, flexibility, innovation, and plenty of onboard tech make the 2019 Odyssey more than just a family chariot, it becomes like part of the family. You might buy the Odyssey for your kids, but you'll probably end up using it for all kinds of tasks, finding it useful far beyond simply hauling kids and gear to soccer practice. With easily configurable seats and ample cargo room, the Odyssey can make all aspects of family life just a bit easier-except, of course, deciding whose music to play. That one is still on you.

Why Buy a Minivan?

Well, the answer to that is really, really short: kids. Kids are why you buy a minivan. But just because you're going to need a minivan doesn't mean you have to resign yourself to beige tones, bulky, ugly proportions, and a distinct lack of style-at least not when you go with the Honda Odyssey. It's innovative, flexible, and more than a little handsome. With plenty of features to keep both parents and children happy, the Honda Odyssey aims to change how drivers from Anderson, Greenville, Simpsonville, Easley, and Clemson think about the humble minivan.

What's New for 2019?

In short-not too much! The 2018 Honda Odyssey was such a hit, that it carried over mostly unchanged. The few improvements include a second 2.5-amp USB port in the center console for EX-L trims and up, as well as a new, 10-speed automatic transmission that features in the Touring and Elite trims.

Highlights from the 2019 Honda Odyssey Minivan:

Carrying over from last year's model, the 2019 Honda Odyssey features one potent engine,  a 3.5-liter V6 with 280 horsepower. That'll give you a little pep on the highway for sure. This engine mates to a nine-speed automatic transmission up until the Touring and Elite trims, which get the aforementioned 10-speed automatic, new for the 2019 model year, delivering smooth shifting and easy acceleration right when you need it.

Notably, Honda Sensing®, the suite of active-safety features, is still standard on the EX trims and up, which should appeal to the people buying minivans-parents. There are other innovations that will please parents, like the CabinWatch feature, standard on the Touring and Elite trims. This allows parents to cast a watchful eye over the second and third rows via an onboard camera, which displays the image on an 8.0-inch dash-mounted screen. If you want to chastise the back seats, the available CabinTalk system lets you cast more than a watchful eye-you can address the back seats to have them "settle down," which can go a long way in convincing the kids you really do have eyes in the back of your head!

It's not all about parents in the 2019 Honda Odyssey, however; kids ultimately win the day when you consider the available high-res Rear Entertainment System with Blu-Ray Player and a 10.0-inch screen, which could keep the phrase "Are we there yet?" permanently exiled from your cabin.

How Does the 2018 Honda Odyssey Stack Up Against the Competition?

The minivan remains an excellent alternative for drivers seeking additional passenger and cargo capacity over most compact or midsize SUVs, without the excessive cost associated with some full-sized SUVs with comparable capacity. As competition diminishes within the segment, a few notable vehicles arise as viable contenders for drivers seeking to purchase a minivan fitted with the latest in interior amenities and mechanical engineering: the Toyota Sienna, Chrysler Town & Country, and 2018 Honda Odyssey.

2018 Honda Odyssey vs. the Toyota Sienna

While minivans are rarely hailed for their brawny performance and nimble handling, a minivan capable of delivering a driving experience that seamlessly integrates with a busy lifestyle remains an arduous task for manufacturers. The 2018 Honda Odyssey, fitted with a 3.5-liter V6 engine exerting 280 horsepower and 262 pound-feet and harnessed with the available Honda Sensing® suite for optimal safety, delivers balanced handling other minivans rarely exhibit. The Toyota Sienna's 3.5-liter V6 exerts 263 pound-feet and 296 horsepower, but is offset with a slightly higher curb weight, resulting in less manageable handling and power specifications that ultimately do not provide ample enough improvement to usurp the 2018 Honda Odyssey. While both minivans offer upgraded interior upholstery, the 2018 Honda Odyssey offers ventilated and heated leather seats, while the Toyota Sienna only offers heated leather seats - less efficient at keeping you cool than the 2018 Honda Odyssey's ventilated option. Both vehicles do offer comparable safety ratings and interior amenities, however Toyota's less ergonomic design and less intuitive infotainment systems ultimately set the Toyota Sienna behind the 2018 Honda Odyssey.

2018 Honda Odyssey vs. the Chrysler Town & Country

As compared with the Toyota Sienna, the 2018 Honda Odyssey's performance once more stands out. The Chrysler Town & Country's 3.6-liter V6 exerts 260 pound-feet and 283 horsepower lacks the same degree of advanced safety technology and handling manners - especially since the Town & Country's curb weight stands nearly three hundred pounds above that of the 2018 Honda Odyssey. Fitted with a full color seven-inch digital driver information interface and accompanying eight-inch display audio touchscreen standard on the EX trim level and above, the 2018 Honda Odyssey boasts a variety of advanced technological features suited to a modern lifestyle - features the Chrysler Town & Country fails to deliver.

A built-in HondaVAC® vacuum found standard on the Touring and Elite trims of the 2018 Honda Odyssey offers superior convenience in addition to its ample cargo capacity (148.5 cubic feet for the 2018 Honda Odyssey versus the 143.8 cubic feet found within the Chrysler Town & Country), the 2018 Honda Odyssey outstrips the competition with attentive design and an ideal balance between capacity and capability. Additionally, while the Chrysler Town & Country was not ranked by the NHTSA in 2017, the 2016 model received a four-star rating, while the 2018 Honda Odyssey received a perfect five-star rating. Thus, the 2018 Honda Odyssey remains the ideal minivan choice once more.
