With the crossover market exploding, it seems as though every automaker wants to adapt at least one of its existing models into an all-new, slightly-larger offering. And that's precisely what Honda may be planning to do with the platform for the next-generation Fit shortly after its release in 2014.

A subcompact crossover?

We'll be the first to admit that the notion sounds a little odd at first, but it honestly makes quite a bit of sense after careful consideration. First, it should be noted that Honda currently uses the Fit platform for a wide range of vehicles around the world. One such vehicle is the Honda Freed, which is a tall-wagon variant of the Fit that can seat up to eight people.

Another reason why a Fit-based crossover would make sense is found in the amount of passenger/cargo room that the current 2013 Honda Fit has to offer.

-          Comfortable seating for five
-          90.8 cubic feet of passenger volume
-          20.6 cubic feet of cargo volume (57.3 with the rear seats down)
-          40.4 inches of headroom in the front/39 inches in the back
-          41.3 inches of legroom in the front/34.5 in the back
-          52.7 inches of shoulder room in the front/51.3 in the back
-          51.5 inches of hip room in the front/51.3 in the back

In other words, a slightly larger version (AKA, a crossover) would make for a great addition to the new Honda lineup available to greater Anderson SC area drivers. That said, you can be that we here at Piedmont Honda will be keeping a close eye for this one in the near future. So make sure to stay tuned, as everyone at 4011 Clemson Blvd. Anderson, SC 29621 is dedicated to keeping you informed.
