While the United States may not be ready to embrace a new pint-sized mini-electric mobile, that's not enough to prohibit the Japanese automaker from producing one. Piedmont Honda is happy to introduce Honda's highly-inventive new Micro Commuter Concept.
Beginning as a prototype in the automaker's home country, Japan, Honda's new Micro Commuter will likely go on to become a production reality there and while it's not likely to be seen in North America anytime soon, new Honda vehicle experts are engrossed by what undersized vehicle might offer.
Designed to fit one driver and perhaps a kid or two, the Honda Micro Commuter is a mere 1.4-meters tall, 2.5-meters long, and 1.25-meters wide. Packed underneath the floor rests a lithium-ion battery, while a 15-kW electric motor sits at the rear wheels. Interestingly enough, the underpinnings are hidden out of the way so that designers can customize the vehicle's body panels to consumer liking.
In addition to other unique factors about the vehicle, driver's will find a non-traditional digital display in the vehicle in the form of their very own tablet computer. The in-car tablet computer will be used to show audio, navigation, dashboard readings, and rearview camera images and will sit in it's own dock directly in front of the wheel.
