When you consider the Honda brand, we can safely assume that the name invokes images of the new Honda lineup, and even your personal experiences owning and driving a model purchased at our dealership in Anderson, SC.
But Honda is much more than the new vehicles it offers, though exceptional. The auto brand is also very involved in philanthropic ventures and one endeavor that is very close to its heart is the preservation of drive-in movie theaters around the United States.
"Cars and drive-in theaters go hand-in-hand, and it's our mission to save this decades-old slice of Americana that holds such nostalgia for so many of us," noted Alicia Jones, the manager of Honda and Acura Social Marketing at American Honda Motor Co. "We're committed to helping the remaining drive-in theaters flourish with the move to digital projection."1
The first drive-in theater flipped on its projector in 1933 and from there, the popularity of the theaters grew exponentially. In the 1950s and 1960s, they were an integral part of American life and it was a regular activity to hop in your Honda or another vehicle to head to the movies.
Following the shift in technology, many drive-in theaters-- furnished with outdated equipment-- were forced to close. To help save venues that are left around the nation, Honda is upgrading theaters' projectors to digital. Since July, 40 percent of existing theaters have made the switch to digital projection with the assistance of Honda.
You can be a part of Project Drive-In too! Simply navigate to (www.projectdrivein.com) to join the cause, enter to win tickets to movie premieres, and to see dates for Honda's pop-up drive-in theater tour-- maybe Piedmont Honda will be a stop!
