Readers, remember last month when we posted about Honda's efforts to save drive-in theaters across the nation?

Now we're back with some heartwarming results of Honda's Project Drive-In! The auto brand has announced it will be donating new digital projectors to nine drive-in theaters around the U.S. The recipients were selected based on over 2.6 million votes sent in through the endeavor's official website.

"It's not often that a company gets the opportunity to help preserve an American pastime," said Alicia Jones, the manager of Honda and Acura social marketing. "It has been an honor and a privilege to bring national and local attention to the fate of drive-ins and to meet the passionate owners of these small businesses."1

For the following theaters, Honda is replacing outdated projection systems with state-of-the-art digital ones: Monetta Drive-In (Monetta, South Carolina), Ocala Drive-In (Ocala, Florida), Starlite Drive-In (Cadet, Montana), Stateline Drive-In (Elizabethton, Tennessee), 99W Drive-In (Newberg, Oregon), Cherry Bowl Drive-In (Honor, Michigan), Graham Drive-In (Graham, Texas), McHenry Outdoor Theater (McHenry, Illinois), and Saco Drive-In (Saco, Maine).

For those of you unfamiliar, digital projectors are necessary for screening new movies. They are also extremely expensive and cost is a primary reason behind drive-in theaters' ability to upgrade and eventual demise.

To help afford digital projectors for winning theaters, Honda raised over $43,000 in an Indiegogo campaign and also donated  a 2014 Honda Odyssey Touring Elite to be auctioned off, with proceeds also going towards another digital projector to save another theater in need.

Is there a local Anderson, SC area drive-in theater you'd like to see receive some assistance from Project Drive-In? Leave us a comment below with your suggestions or some fond memories you have about drive-in theaters! We at Piedmont Honda would love to hear your thoughts and stories.
