This morning, Honda issued a press release with the exciting announcement that the company's all-new fuel cell vehicle (FCV), Clarity, will be shown this week at the 2016 New York International Auto Show. The five-passenger sedan is powered by hydrogen and is claimed to have the most advanced technology currently available in an FCV. In addition to Honda's "Sensing" suite of safety and driver assistance technology, Clarity will also come with in-cabin smartphone connectivity technology for both mainstream systems.
An important innovation in the Clarity Fuel Cell is a stack that is 33 percent more compact than the FCX Clarity. This 60 percent increase in power density allows for a more spacious cabin and delivers a driving range in excess of 300 miles. The refined exterior of the clarity is accented by long, clean lines, and will be available in black, white, and red paint schemes. The interior delivers intuitive controls, and a display audio system supports smartphone connectivity with app-based navigation and streaming services.
"We're pleased to be able to offer this first look at the U.S. version of the Clarity Fuel Cell sedan in advance of its market arrival later this year," said John Mendel, executive vice president, Automobile Division, American Honda Motor Co., Inc. "The Clarity Fuel Cell is the first in an expanding portfolio of advanced electrified vehicles from Honda that will create a new pillar in our product lineup."
With a starting MSRP of $60,000, Clarity is expected to be available in select California markets before the end of the year. The 2016 New York International Auto Show begins Wednesday, March 23.
